So if you have a mental illness, go out and kill someone, your lawyer will use that in your defense!

Come on!!

This is why mental illness is such a horrible thing in the eyes of the world. People shouldn’t use that as a defense and if it true and that’s why you killed people…then you don’t need a lawyer, you need help.

  1. People who claim this defense probably do so as a last resort to get out of punishment. If they acknowledged their illness earlier they my have gotten the help they needed. Instead the don’t confront the illness until it is convenient.

  2. I did a post about this. I know mental illness is a convenient legal defense but all it does is add to the stigma. Additionally I feel that, even if you legitimately have a mental illness, it only explains your actions but NEVER excuses them. We must all take responsibility for our lives.
